The Land

by Uncas Austria

The moment I stepped out of the school, I noticed something:
Desecration. The color of the soil told me of its fate.  Man's
twisted hand of depravation had strangled every ounce
of energy from the land until it was nothing more than a
dried husk. Debris littered the floor as well, showing how
the humans within the area had no sympathy for the land or
it's fate.  As we progressed, I saw the grass become slightly greener.
The debris remained, yet not as much as I had seen previously,
After progressing around more and getting closer to the school, I began
to see more animal life, though not often.  One of two squirrels
scaling a dying tree.  A few birds chirping here and there, though
not within my range of sight. Humans, of course, littering and adding on to
the pain of the earth, smoking and possibly killing themsleves and
others with the lethal drug.  As we finally approached the school,
I noticed similarities and differences between the school and the outside
world.  Many people may not look very closely at these details,
which is why they poison, pollute, and destroy the land.
